During the D23 Disney and Marvel Games Showcase, Marvel announces the release date for their new free-to-play card game Marvel Snap.
The release date for Disney's upcoming free-to-play trading card game Marvel Snap has been announced as October. As part of the D23 Expo on Friday, Disney sponsored a unique Marvel & Disney Games Showcase event. Several big announcements about upcoming Marvel video games were made during the event. One of those games was Marvel Snap, which is a big element of Disney's video gaming ambitions for the rest of 2022.
Marvel Snap is best viewed as Disney's attempt to combine the Marvel franchise with easily accessible online trading card games such as Blizzard's Hearthstone. Each card in Marvel Snap, which will have over 150 at launch, has a power level and a unique ability. Players will employ these abilities to attempt to win two of three "lanes" in a match. Players must use all 12 cards in their deck to win, with Marvel Snap bouts taking place in real-time and finishing swiftly.
Needless to say, many Marvel fans are eager to get their hands on Marvel Snap. They, too, will not have to wait long. The official release date for Marvel Snap is October 18. It will be available on both PC and mobile platforms. Ben Brode, who was previously the game director for Hearthstone and is now the chief development officer for Marvel Snap creator Second Dinner, says the team has spent years making sure the game is something "everyone, gamer or not, can't wait to pick up and play."
