Purple Lamp Studios will have a playable demo of the upcoming platformer SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake at Gamescom 2022.
Purple Lamp Studios debuted a playable demo of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake at the 2022 Gamescom. As a result, there are nearly 15 minutes of fresh platformer gameplay to go over.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake was released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC just over a year ago. It's another 3D platformer in the series, following in the footsteps of Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, Battle for Bikini Bottom, and The Yellow Avenger.
The Gamescom demo reveals some razor-sharp gameplay from what appears to be the game's PC version. The demo level is called Jellyfish Fields and is located in the Wild West, one of the game's seven worlds. The wacky atmosphere, fast-paced platforming parts, and various visual puns look to be comparable with the initial SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake gameplay footage, which was unveiled earlier this month as part of THQ Nordic Digital Showcase.
Purple Lamp Studios may have previously offered the game's concept document to THQ Nordic in 2018, after which its now-parent chose to test the market with a Battle for Bikini Bottom remake before committing to a full-fledged sequel. This would imply that a late 2023 launch is still possible, despite the lack of a release date at the moment. Whatever happens with The Cosmic Shake, fans can probably expect additional remakes of sixth-generation SpongeBob SquarePants titles.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is currently in development on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
