Windows Subsystem for Android on Windows 11 adds compatibility for gamepads in games.
Microsoft released an update for the Windows Subsystem for Android on Windows 11 on Tuesday. The update is currently being rolled out to all Windows Insider channels in the United States. The new update, version 2206.40000.15.0, focuses primarily on games. It also includes several new changes, such as improved input compatibility in networking apps, windowing improvements, and reliability. According to the company, the update also includes a new suite of shims (libraries) to toggle in the Windows Subsystem for Android settings app, which will enable better experiences in several apps.
The tech giant announced the release of an update for the Windows Subsystem for Android with the version 2206.40000.15.0 in a blog post. The update is now available to all Windows Insider channels, but only in the United States. It includes "several new changes such as updates for input compatibility in apps such as games, networking and windowing improvements, and reliability updates," according to Microsoft.
Microsoft is making a new set of shims (libraries used to transparently intercept application programming interfaces, or APIs) available in the Windows Subsystem for Android settings app to enable better experiences in a variety of apps. It is also adding support for games that use joysticks that are mapped to the WASD keys. Compatibility for gamepads in games, aiming with arrow keys in games, and sliding with arrow keys in games is also being introduced.
Furthermore, the new Windows Subsystem for Android in Windows 11 improves scrolling and networking. Microsoft has also set the minimum window size to 220dp by default. In addition, the update includes a better dialogue when an unsupported VPN is detected, a new toggle to view and save diagnostic data, security updates, general reliability fixes, and graphics improvements. Improvements to diagnostic sizes are also included in the general reliability fixes.
Microsoft has also noted a known vulnerability with the new Windows Subsystem for Android in the Windows 11 release. Some VPNs, according to the manufacturer, may not be compatible with Advanced Networking. According to the business, if a user doesn't have network access for Android applications when using a VPN, they may disable Advanced Networking in the Windows Subsystem for Android settings app.
