Sony is planning to bring one of gaming's most beloved franchises to PlayStation Plus before the end of 2022. In general, the number of titles available on PS Plus has already grown significantly in recent months, thanks to the introduction of PS Plus Premium and PS Plus Extra. The entire Yakuza series from Sega will soon be available via the PlayStation subscription platform, making those tiers of the service even more valuable.
Sony announced this week that the entire Yakuza franchise (excluding spin-off entries) will be added to PlayStation Plus in the near future. These additions will begin next month, when Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the most recent entry in the series, becomes available as part of August's free game lineup for all PlayStation Plus subscribers. Along with this, Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will all be available on PS Plus in August. Yakuza 3 Remastered, Yakuza 4 Remastered, Yakuza 5 Remastered, and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life are all scheduled to arrive on PS Plus before the end of the year.
Even though the entire Yakuza saga will soon be available on PS Plus, it's important to note that not all tiers of the service will have access to it. Instead, here are the PS Plus versions required to play specific entries:
- Yakuza: Like a Dragon - PS Plus Essential (August 2022)
- Yakuza 0 - PS Plus Extra/Premium
- Yakuza Kiwami - PS Plus Extra/Premium
- Yakuza Kiwami 2 - PS Plus Extra/Premium
- Yakuza 3 Remastered - PS Plus Pemium
- Yakuza 4 Remastered - PS Plus Pemium
- Yakuza 5 Remastered - PS Plus Pemium
- Yakuza 6: The Song of Life - PS Plus Premium
Overall, this is a significant boost for PlayStation Plus, bringing one of Sega's most popular franchises to the platform. With Yakuza 8 in the works, now might be a good time to give these games a try if you've never played any of them before.
